It’s been almost ten years since the last census and plans are currently underway for Census 2020. The U.S. Census counts every resident in the United States and is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution. The data collected by the decennial census determine the number of seats each state has in the U.S. House of Representatives and is also used to distribute billions in federal funds. The information is also used on the state level for redistricting as well. Importantly, the Trump Administration has added a controversial citizenship question to the 2020 Census and there are other important changes in the use of technology that could impact Staten Island in major ways.
Join Move Forward Staten Island and NYPIRG for an informative panel to learn about why the census is so important, what’s different this time around and what you can do to ensure a fair and safe counting of Staten Island’s residents.
