Description
The NC Environmental Redistricting tour is an opportunity for community members interested in shaping our democracy through redistricting reform to learn and discuss the spectrum of ways that we can integrate our values of political independence, transparency, environmental justice and racial equity in an NC-specific redistricting reform proposal. We are lucky to be joined by NC experts in redistricting and organizing who will discuss the path and challenges to achieving independence, transparency, and equity in reform.
We look forward to learning and sharing with you.
Childcare and interpretation available upon request. For childcare, please include the number of children and ages of each child. Send this information to the email provided.
Event is co-sponsored by Friends of the Earth - Democracy Campaign, Democracy NC, Center for Biological Diversity - Ignite Change, Common Cause NC, NC League of Women Voters, Southern Coalition for Social Justice.
Tour description:
All citizens should have the power to choose their elected officials, not the other way around. We have seen the result of politicians choosing their citizens in North Carolina: racial gerrymanders and partisan gerrymanders.
This tour will serve to electrify and empower environmental communities or communities that have in-common: natural resources, natural disasters or man-made infrastructures. Man-made infrastructures including but not limited to: pipelines, coal ash, and CAFOs. Attendees will receive organizing-one-one and an organizing toolkit.
The intention of this tour, in eastern North Carolina, is to raise awareness for environmental communities of interest in redistricting; to lift the intersectionality of redistricting and other local issues; to electrify the environmental base in redistricting reform, specifically an independent redistricting commission.
On-site childcare will be provided. Please include on this form: how many children and what ages.
